Gplan were popular a uk based mid-century furniture maker.

The chairs are in original condition. Teak frames are in very good condition, one chair has a repair made by the original owner, not the best but the chair is sturdy and well glued ( see pics) . One chair has a 3 cm by 2 mm patch repair to the velour. Otherwise they are in great original condition.

This Chair has been fully restored in the style of the original chair designed by George Doukoff.

The Chair Features a Moulded piece of plywood, with 1/2 inch of rubber foam and new grey upholstery.

The Maple frame has been refinished in a Modern Wax Oil.

Fantastic piece, wonderful grain and timeless design. This chair would make a wonderful feature chair, for any collector.

Background Information

George Doukoff was born in Bulgaria and migrated to Australia in 1951. George Doukoff later set up a small furniture business designing chairs in Brisbane.

The Volkschair was designed to meet the requirements of the government institutions and homes and was known as the “Heath line chair”.

These chairs were professionally restored a few years ago by Tessa before the factory closed.

This classical Australian made Chair, which won Australian Design Awards in the 1970’s, is crafted from Solid Tasmanian Blackwood, The unique bucket style upholstery frame provides great ergonomic support for your long term comfort. This model is still made to the same design specifications that Fred Lowen developed in the late 1960’s.

These chairs are in original condition. The fabric has been cleaned , but is showing signs of use. The wooden frame has been cleaned and polished… has some marks consistent with age, but overall in great condition.

The seating canvas support has been fully replaced.
