Background Information:
Gerald Easden was a distinguished furniture and interior designer renowned for his innovative and award-winning contributions to the industry. After completing his studies at Wycombe Technical Institute, he worked with prominent British manufacturers Ercol and Parker Knoll before relocating to Australia in 1957. There, he played pivotal roles in designing interiors and furniture for notable projects, including government buildings and the Empress of Australia liner. Easden later founded his own consultancy in Melbourne, where he crafted designs for various sectors, including retail, hospitality, and commercial spaces, earning over twenty Good Design awards. His work with companies like Aristoc, Fler, Module, and Ausgum, combined with honors such as the ‘Modern Icon’ status by the Australian Furniture Association and a Fellowship from the Design Institute of Australia, cemented his legacy as a leading figure in furniture design (Design.org.au) (Design and Art Australia Online).
Condition:
The frame has been re-glued, stripped, and refinished with a durable coating. The upholstery, professionally redone a few years ago, has been cleaned and remains in excellent condition.
