Description
Matilda Dining Chairs by Module International, Designed by Gerald Easden (ADIA), circa 1970s.
A rare find from the golden era of Australian modernism, this Matilda dining suite is a collector’s piece seldom seen intact. Comprising four dining chairs and two carvers, all upholstered in rich conker-toned Howe saddle leather, the suite retains its original character and materials—an increasingly elusive combination.
Crafted in Victorian Ash with pronounced grain and robust construction, Easden’s design channels the spirit of the era with its relaxed elegance and uncompromising comfort. The sculptural carvers, in particular, are scarcely encountered and elevate the ensemble’s presence.
Few examples of this suite remain today, making it not just a statement piece, but a testament to the legacy of local design and craftsmanship
