Background Information:
Nathan Steinberg, a skilled cabinet maker, arrived in London from Tarnopol, Austria, at the age of 13 in 1895. After apprenticing in the craft, he established his own business in 1910, specializing in the production of bedroom furniture. Following the Second World War, the company evolved into Stonehill Furniture and transitioned into a public company in 1964. The primary factory was located in Angel Factory Colony, Edmonton, north London, complemented by additional facilities, including a former Co-op factory in Pelaw, Co. Durham. Nathan’s sons, Philip and Maurice Steinberg, successfully managed the business until their retirement in the 1980s.
Condition:
The sideboard has undergone a light restoration process and has been finished with a durable coating. When it came into my possession, the sideboard was not in the best condition, there are several repairs to ensure its readiness for its new home.
