Robert Dunlop (1925–2014) was a Brisbane-based furniture maker celebrated for blending Australian bushcraft traditions with European modernist influences. His work gained national recognition in the 1970s, leading to commissions for Parliament House and the High Court in Canberra. By the early 1980s, his designs were sold in 19 countries, and in 2015 he was posthumously inducted into the Design Institute of Australia’s Hall of Fame.🌿 The Tanderra Chair
Designed and produced in the 1970s, the Tanderra chair exemplifies Dunlop’s signature style: sculptural radiata pine frames, diagonally braced stretchers, and hand-stitched leather seats. The name “Tanderra” — meaning “resting place” in Wiradjuri — reflects the chair’s relaxed, grounded presence. Though few were made, the design stands out for its organic lines and honest materials, making it a prized piece of Australian design history. - Condition:Frames are in excellent structural condition with minimal wear. The leather has been gently cleaned with saddle soap but remains heavily worn, showing substantial patina, surface creasing, and age-related imperfections consistent with long-term use.
